THE SURROUNDING AREA

This area has a peculiar landscape. Moving east toward the Adriatic sea, wine-yards and crops such as sun-flowers and durum wheat draw the hilly landscape shaped by the man along the centuries. The area is also scattered by several old castle-like shaped villages: the buildings here have a distinctive light red clay brick colour. Moving west toward the Apennines mountains, the landscape becomes more wild: the main features of it being forests and mountain, while only in the plains few crops are grown. The villages here are more scattered and severe in nature: the colour of the building is white as the calcareous rocks of the mountains.
